In The Story of a Soul, St. Therese of Lisieux wrote as follows:
“Jesus does not demand great actions from us, but simply surrender and gratitude.”
Sometimes, if we’re not careful, we can make “doing big things” for Jesus our main focus while ignoring that which He wants from us most of all: a life of total surrender to Him.
It can be a lot easier directing a children’s play at church and offering this up to Christ instead of surrendering a gossiping tongue or overspending habit that Jesus wants us to crucify, can’t it? Why do you think this is?
As you evaluate your life, are you finding it difficult to surrender to Jesus in certain areas? What are those areas, and why are you struggling to surrender them to Christ?
There are deep-rooted reasons for our unwillingness to let go of things that God doesn’t want in our lives. What do you think are yours?
