Life has Been a Blessed Adventure

Summary

As a military family, the Bernards’ homeschooling with Seton allowed them to travel, always feeling blessed for the solid and accredited academics Seton provides.

Homeschooling with Seton has been a blessing because, as a super-nomadic military family with five children, we have had much more family time, which we value immensely. Our children, Heidi, 11; Owen, 9; Hannah, 5; Caleb, 3; and Fulton, 1 have had so many more opportunities to acquire life skills, and we have gotten to live more liturgically.

Military Life

My husband is a Commanding Officer F-18 (Growler) Pilot in the U.S. Navy. After a faithful and honorable 20 years of service in the military, Mike will retire in the summer of 2024.

We are so very proud of him and all of his sacrifices and the sacrifices we have made individually and as a family to get here. Because we have had to move every three years, we have traveled all over the country, from the West Coast to the East Coast, several times and all over the place.

Because we homeschooled, we stayed together as a family throughout our moves, even when he had to go away for a long period of training.

Happy Trails

We got an RV and traveled through 11 states from Texas, seeing The Painted Desert in New Mexico, The Grand Canyon in Arizona, The Rockies of Colorado, The Grand Tetons of Wyoming, Yellowstone in Montana, The Red Woods of California, Death Valley in Nevada, through Oregon to Mount Saint Helens, and finally to the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Washington.

Our lives have been such a blessed adventure, and we would not have been able to do it without homeschooling with Seton’s consistent and solid academics as an anchor for the children! Knowing that they are learning what they should throughout all our travels and moves brings so much confidence and peace.

Homeschooling has allowed us to stay together as a family, travel everywhere, and make many transitions seamless. Homeschooling has also enabled us to make wonderful friends around the country with similar values who are trying to raise their children in ways similar to ours.

Spending time with our children and family is a priority, and homeschooling is a blessing because we get to spend so much special time together as a family. We love the freedom for our children to be who they are and learn how they learn.

Homeschooling is amazing because we go through life at our own pace. We don’t have to wake the kids up super early and rush our lives away. We can stop and “smell the roses” together as experiences come up, always assured that Seton is providing solid academics infused with the Catholic Faith.

Living This Season Fully

Making these memories together and being a part of so much with them, knowing we will be able to look back and feel that we lived life to the fullest in all aspects of this season of life as a mother, as a father, and as a family, is the greatest thing.

Homeschooling gives the kids many more opportunities to learn life skills, which so many children lack in the rat race pace of life, so they go out into the real world and struggle in some of the most fundamental ways. But our kids have more accountability on a wider variety of things throughout the day.

It is such a gift to learn and normalize basic life management skills. It is important to balance time between homeschooling, spending time with the family, our hobbies, and caring for ourselves spiritually and physically.

I am a passionate Catholic artist (www.IngridBernard.com) (www.LivingTabernacle.com) and love that I can do it all with the kids. As adults, we are still learning so much, as we always will be, but we feel it is a gift to help them develop life skills at a much younger age.

Liturgical Living

Homeschooling is the ultimate for liturgical living! (www.LiturgicalLiving.com) We love how Seton Home Study School weaves everything into the Catholic faith through images and art in books, literature, and more.

We love that we can live out our faith and the feast days, talk about the faith, and infuse the faith into everything we do throughout the day! It is so important to us as parents to really try and cement our faith now to prepare them for the world
out there, and that is the best thing we can do as parents: try our best.

Seton Homeschool is the best thing in this season of our lives! All we can do is pray and try our best so we can look back and know we gave this season our all!

As a military family, homeschooling with Seton has allowed us to travel and move around seamlessly, have much more family time, and give the kids more opportunities to develop life skills and live more liturgically and intentionally! We feel so blessed for the solid and accredited academics that Seton provides for us to homeschool our children.
